Nadal, Nishikori Launch Barcelona In Style

After what he declared to be his most positive week of the season so far in Monte-Carlo, World No. 4 Rafael Nadal is now in Barcelona, preparing to launch his campaign for a ninth Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell crown.

The Spaniard joined defending champion Kei Nishikori at the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau on Monday to play a game of mini-tennis in front of watching fans and journalists.
He is set to open his campaign at this ATP World Tour 500 clay-court tournament against either Paolo Lorenzi or Nicolas Almagro. Should it be former World No. 9 Almagro, Nadal is only too aware of the challenge the former Barcelona finalists poses.
“Almagro is a great player and always a dangerous opponent,” said Nadal in a press conference. “I have to try to find my way, but it will be difficult against Nico.”
Last week, at the Monte-Carlo Country Club, Nadal battled past John Isner and David Ferrer before losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. In what has been a mixed start to the year for the left-hander, Nadal said his performance last week proved he is on track to regaining his best form.
“The week in Monte-Carlo was the most positive of the year so far for me,” said Nadal. “I didn't have any ups and downs, only very positive moments. But you can't win just on these moments, only with consistency, by not committing errors. I have gained in confidence and security.”
