Wike, Others to receive certificate of return today amidst tight security

The winner of the Rivers gubernatorial election, Mr. Nyesom Wike is expected to recieve his certificate of return today with some elected candidate in the 2015 general elections.

Wike, who was the last to receive his certificate of return after the deputy governor-elect, Mrs. Ipalibo Banigo, and winners in the House of Assembly and National Assembly elections had collected theirs, urged those that ran in the governorship election with him not to see politics as a do-or-die affair.

The governor-elect said nobody lost in the election, adding that since the people of the state won, it was necessary for everybody to work towards the development of Rivers and the country as a whole.

“Nobody has lost in this election. All of us, Rivers people, have won the election. We will carry everybody along, irrespective of party affiliation.

“I urge my colleagues who contested with me not to see politics as a do-or-die affair. Let us work together and move the nation forward,” Wike urged.

The governor-elect expressed gratitude to INEC for conducting a credible election, maintaining that the development had disappointed those that predicted that Nigeria would disintegrate after the 2015 elections.

“I want to thank INEC and all other sister agencies for doing a good job. Some people predicted that 2015 would be the end of Nigeria. But the prediction did not come to pass,” Wike added.

He said that despite the plot of the All Progressives Congress to manipulate the mandate of the people through the judiciary, the People Democratic Party would never be intimidated.

According to him, the survival of PDP in the state was because God had destined the party to liberate Rivers.

He said, “The people of Rivers State will never regret their support for the PDP during the elections. We assure PDP members in Rivers State that the intimidation tactics introduced by the outgoing administration through a phantom judicial commission of inquiry will fail.”

Earlier, Iremiren, had apologised to the winner of the House of Representatives election for Tai/Oyigbo/Eleme Federal Constituency, Dr. Jacob Sinbiena, over the non-availability of his certificate of return.

Iremiren assured the winner of the election in the constituency that his certificate of return would be ready within the week.
