It is sad that senate rejects N5, 000 allowance for unemployed youths-Ben Bruce

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce representing Bayelsa East Senatorial district has condemned the rejection by the senate the promise made by All Progressives Party to pay N5, 000 monthly allowance to unemployed youths in the country and described it as sad.

The party made the promise during its campaign but when the issue was raised at the floor of the upper chamber by Senator Philip Aduda on Wednesday, majority of the lawmakers shot it down.
Aduda had urged President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his party’s promise of paying N5,000 monthly to unemployed Nigerian youths, which the senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio seconded but the motion did not fly.

Speaking, Ben Murray Bruce said, “It is sad that the Senate rejected the motion to pay unemployed youths ₦5000 monthly despite the support of PDP Senators for the motion,” Murray-Bruce wrote via his twitter.
Aduda’s motion followed an earlier motion‎ on the need to curb unemployment in Nigeria by Senator Bassey Akpan who observed that the rate of job creation in Nigeria was grossly inadequate to keep pace with the expanding working age and labour force population. He said if the nation’s unemployed youths‎ were effectively engaged in gainful employment, vices such as terrorism, kidnapping and armed robbery would be reduced.
Has asked the senate to call on the “federal government and sub-national governments to intensify their effort on employment generation activities in line with their various campaign promises”.
