A 23-year-old man has been arrested after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
Jared Richardson was taken into custody by Sacramento police detectives Friday at his place of employment in Roseville, according to a Police Department news release.
Sacramento police in September began an investigation of an alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old. It is believed that the victim was introduced to Richardson by a mutual friend through social media, police said. The two reportedly engaged in conversation for a week before the alleged assault occurred.
Police said the investigation revealed that Richardson knew the girl was 14 years old and proceeded to pick her up at a nearby gas station. Richardson then allegedly took her to his apartment, where she was sexually assaulted.
On Wednesday, Sacramento police detectives, in conjunction with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, obtained a warrant for Richardson’s arrest.
Following his arrest Friday, Richardson was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges including sexual intercourse with a minor younger than 16.
