Economic times has reported that veteran politician Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan, a four-time 'President' of Azad Kashmir, died in Islamabad today after a protracted illness.
He was considered as one of the founders of the Kashmir Liberation Movement and the supreme leader of the Muslim Conference, which is the oldest political party in Azad Jammu and Kashmir region.
91-year-old Khan was chief of the Muslim Conference which is the oldest political party in Azad Kashmir. He was elected as 'President' of the disputed region for the first time in 1956.
Khan was also elected as 'President' in 1971, 1985 and 1990. He was later appointed as 'Prime Minister' serving till 1996.
He had been suffering from several diseases for the past few years and was politically inactive.
His son Attique Ahmad Khan has taken over the leadership of the Muslim Conference.
