Struggle for NASS leadership: APC lawmakers to sign undertaking

Lawmakers-elect under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, ACP, are to sign an undertaking pledging to abide by the party’s choice of candidates for the leadership of the 8th national assembly.
The party had been facing internal crisis owing to the choice of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

According to source in the APC hierarchy, the party would conduct an internal election for its lawmakers on Saturday.
“The aim of the election is to present sole candidates for the position of senate president and speaker of the house of representatives”, a source told TheCable.
“The party is trying to avoid a situation in which its lawmakers will be divided next Tuesday when the national assembly election will take place.
“The party does not want the lawmakers to undermine its supremacy. What we want do is to avoid crisis. We know there will be hiccups, but we will get through them”, the source added.
The APC leadership is currently meeting with its house of representatives member‎s-elect at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja.
A consensus candidate for speaker of the house is expected to emerge after the meeting‎. ‎
