1. As controversy continues to trail the wardrobe allowance of Nigerian lawmakers, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun (Osun-APC), yesterday said the N150 billion budgetary allocation to the National Assembly was accurate and normal as it has been the usual practice. He said the budget was only 2.67 of the country’s annual budget.
2. Report has emerged that security of the Aso Rock, otherwise known as the Strike Force will now be taken over by the military as against having the DSS to protect the Villa and Mr President.
3. The government of Imo State has denied media report that it was owing its workers 11 months salaries. The government said that its workers were being owed only May Salary which will soon be paid.
4. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday questioned a former governor of Ebonyi State, Martin Elechi and some of his former Commissioners over misappropriation of State’s funds while in office.
5. A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday directed First Bank Plc to disclose details of the loan facility it granted the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for the purchase of the two controversial bulletproof BMW cars for the former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, in 2013.
6. While speaking with Nigerians living in South Africa, President Muhammadu Buhari regretted that he became Nigerian President at his old age, admitting that his age will have a little effect on his government as he would have loved to rule the country at an early age.
7. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, through its Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, has taken on former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso over his utterances which the party said were capable of destabilising the National Assembly and rubbishing the prevailing political calmness the country currently enjoys. The party said it was not expecting such a hate statement from Kwankwaso against the it.
8. The Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Robert Boroffice, on Tuesday denied that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, was imposing on the party Senator Ahmad Lawan and House of Representatives member, Femi Gbajabiamila, as consensus candidates for the National Assembly leadership positions. He however admitted that Tinubu had preferred Senator George Akume and Gbajabiamila to be presented as the party’s choice for both positions.
9. Former Niger Delta militants have alleged that Nigerian beneficiaries of the programme abroad are currently facing extreme hardship. In a letter to President Buhari by the leadership of the former militants, they complained that the absence of a Presidential special adviser and chairman for the Presidential Amnesty Programme was the reason for the difficulties been faced.
10. Police on Tuesday rescued the abducted Regent of Akungba-Akoko in Akoko South West local government area of Ondo State, Princess Oluwatoyin Omosowon from her abductors. Two suspects were also arrested in connection with her abduction.
