Operatives of the Edo State Police Command has apprehended an unidentified young man for allegedly siphoning diesel from a truck belonging to a beverage company located at Ikpoba Hill, in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the State.
The unidentified young man was caught by a vigilante guard in the area at about 4:00am on 27 May, who noticed some diesel on the ground around the parked truck.
The vigilante guard was said to have traced the flow to the truck where he found the suspect siphoning diesel into some jerry cans.
It was gathered that the suspect on sighting the vigilante attempted to escape but was overpowered by residents after the guard raised an alarm..
The timely intervention of the police from Aduwawa division however saved the suspect from been lynched by the angry residents who had already descended on him following the alarm raised by the night guard.
He was tied and asked to keep the hose, he used to pass the stolen diesel in his mouth.
According to an eyewitness, the suspect confessed that he was a member of a gang that specializes in stealing petroleum products from packed vehicles in the area.
He said, “There are other people in the same business with me and they have stolen more than 1,000 litres before.
