Ikuforiji shows appreciation to fellow legislators, staff as Lagos Assembly holds valedictory session

The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, on Monday said he was proud that the state legislature had become a resource institution to its counterparts across the country.
He spoke at the final plenary and valedictory session of the 7th Assembly, where he thanked the lawmakers and all staff members for their support which made the feat possible.

“I am leaving behind a democratic Assembly; this legislature has become a resource institution to other legislatures in Nigeria,” Ikuforiji, who would not be part of the 8th Assembly in the state, said.
He said he was happy to have been speaker of the best parliament in the country, with competent and well trained legislators.
Ikuforiji said he was satisfied with the modest achievements of the assembly and urged the incoming 8th Assembly to give support to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode without compromise.
Earlier, legislators took turns to appreciate the Mrs Funmilayo Tejuosho (APC-Mushin I) said:” I want to thank Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for being there, I have learnt a lot from him.
“I thank Mr Speaker for the healthy Assembly we have, though we disagree to agree many times.”
Tejuosho, who would return for the 4th time to House during the 8th Assembly, also commended the media for contributing to its success.
Mr King Alawiye, representing Lagos (Mainland I) said: “I want to appreciate the Jagaban, the Asiwaju himself, for his leadership qualities.
“I want to also appreciate the Speaker for bravery, courage and doggedness. He broadened my legislative knowledge.”
Also speaking, Mr Avoseh Suuru, representing Badagry Constituency I, thanked the Speaker for being open-minded.
“I came in as opposition party but we were not discriminated against, we were treated well and the way we were handled made me declare for ACN in 2010.
“We are proud of the speaker for the best training given,” he said.
Avoseh however urged the 8th Assembly to improve on time management.
In his views, Mr Bisi Yusuf, representing APC-Alimosho I, said “Our speaker is good, he has a very large heart, a genius and a giant achiever.
“The only shortcoming of this Assembly is the poor time management, maybe we might have achieved more had we managed our time well.”
Mr Adebayo Osinowo, (APC-Kosofe I) described the speaker as a ‘brilliant guy’ and Tinubu as one who made the 7th Assembly achievements possible.
“All our achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the Asiwaju and Gov. Babatunde Fashola.
“I use this opportunity to commend the Asiwaju for being there for us and the governor for his support.”
NAN reports that the lawmakers rolled out some of the achievements under Ikuforiji to include passage of laws, the best kind of trainings and construction of its befitting Chambers, among others.
Twenty members of the 7th Assembly, including the Speaker and his Deputy Kolawole Taiwo, will not be part of the 8th Assembly to be inaugurated on Thursday.
