The All Progressive Congress, Rivers state chapter, has accussed the the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike of planning to massively loot the treasury of the state by appointing family members and cronies into key positions in sensitive parastatals in the state.
This is according to the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers state who are calling on the people of the state to be wary of the administration of Wike.
State Publicity Secreatary of the APC, Chris Finebone told the media in Port Harcourt that the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike has appointed his kinsman and in-law into some government establishments.
According to Finebone, “A couple of days ago, Chief Wike announced the appointment of a Sole Administrator and a Board of the Greater Port Harcourt City, GPHC which was created by Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers state.
“In constituting the Board, Wike appointed his immediate cousin, Okas Wike, the brother of Emma Wike and Partners, a direct cousin of chief Wike to the Board of the GPHC.
“Not done, Governor Wike also appointed his direct in-law, the immediate brother to his father-in-law, Architect Obuzor to thesame board of merely seven members.
Finebone however called on Rivers people to ignore the appointments of the Governor, adding that they will not stand.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to Wike on media and publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah denied nepotism in the appointment of key officers in government agencies and parastatals.
Inko-Tariah who denied the claim of the APC noted that the recent appointments were on based credibility and merit, “First and foremost these are Rivers sons and they are qualified to handle those positions they were appointed into. They are ably qualified. That the Governor is somehow related to them does not mean they should be rubbed of their rights.
“What we should be concerned with is whether they are competent. After all in the United states of America we have George Bush Senior as the President and his 2 sons as governors. This is democracy,” he said.
