Kaduna poll: Low turnout of voters is based on PDP threat - El-Rufai

The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, has attributed the poor turnout of voters for Saturday’s elections to an alleged threat by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to cause chaos in the state.


El-Rufai, who addressed newsmen shortly after casting his vote, said the electorates were afraid to show up at their polling units because of their fear of being attacked while exercising their civic right.
The turnout of voters was so low compared to the massive attendance witnessed in March 28 Presidential and National Assembly polls in the state.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, however, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the improvement on the Presidential and National Assembly elections, noting that accreditation commenced early on Saturday.

He expressed satisfaction with the use of the card readers, which he described as effective.
Speaking on the possible outcome of the elections, El-Rufai said the APC had a wide acceptance in the state, adding that the people’s will would prevail at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, the state Governor and PDP candidate in the election, Alhaji Mukhtar Yero shortly after accreditation in Zaria told his supporters and the entire people of the state to accept the outcome of the elections.
