FCT police trains personnel on election duties

Abuja - The FCT Police Command has embarked on specialised training for its officers and men to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections in the territory, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, FCT Commissioner of Police, has said.

The CP made the statement on Sunday in Abuja at an interactive session with the media organized by 'I Nigerian Initiative' an NGO.

He said the training was organised for the personnel of the command to know their roles and responsibilities during the elections.

He added that other security agencies were also involved in the training in the "spirit of inter-agency collaboration".

Inalegwu listed the security agencies to include the Department of State Security (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) amongst others.

He said that apart from the military, whose role would be restricted during the elections, other security agencies that would man the various polling centres would participate in the training.

"When we are deploying, we deploy in such a way that the officers can deal with threat in their particular area," he said, and commended the cordial relationship among security agencies in the FCT.
