While the Samsung S6 and S6 Edge have 3GB of fast DDR4 RAM, the software that controls the memory management appears to be set too aggressively, which is closing background apps prematurely.
"For example. I'll open up chrome, go to a webpage, exit chrome, and then when I come back to chrome it starts reloading the page again," writes XDA Developer's forum member brian85.
"I've noticed it refreshes or restarts a ton of apps after I come back to them after a short amount of time and it never puts me where I last left off in the app. Even my two year old phones keep apps open longer."
Other users are complaining of excessive RAM usage which can only be fixed by manually shutting down apps or rebooting the handset.
However, there may be a resolution on the way for S6 and S6 Edge users plagued by this problem. According to a post made on Facebook by Samsung Mobile UK, an update may be incoming that will address these issues (alternatively, this comment may be just be a standard social media response to issues raised).
Interestingly, the Android 5.1.1 changelog lists "RAM management improved" as one of the improvements it contains. However, the S6 and S6 Edge both run Android 5.0.2, so the patch may be a one being developed by Samsung.
